Graduate Assistantships

Once you apply to one of our graduate programs, you can also apply to become a Graduate Instructional Assistant (GIA). These assistantships provide our graduate students with 20 hours of work per week and offers substantial behind-the-scenes experience in academia.

Please read the full graduate assistant job description before beginning the POSI graduate assistant online application. Departmental review will begin on March 1, 2023 and continue until all positions are filled.

A complete application packet will consist of:  (1) Application for Graduate Assistant position, (2) a resume, (3) an undergraduate transcript (can be printed off CATSWEB if applicant graduated from Texas State; a copy of an official transcript for all undergraduate coursework if applicant graduated from another university.), (4) three references (please see below for information on how to submit letters of recommendation from your references), and, where relevant, a writing sample. A selection committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Political Science will review and rank applications and make hiring recommendations to the Chair.  It is a competitive hiring process and references will be contacted; personal interviews with finalists for the positions may be requested.

Applicants must request their 3 references submit letters of recommendation directly to the Department of Political Science's GA Coordinator, by email, fax, or mail.
