Janice E. Collins Memorial Endowed Graduate Student Scholarship in Legal Studies

The Janice E. Collins Memorial Endowed Graduate Student Scholarship in Legal Studies is awarded in the fall semester to a graduate student enrolled at Texas State University in the Master of Arts in Legal Studies program.

The Scholarship was established by Joe Collins to serve as a lasting legacy to the memory of his wife, Janice Collins, who served the Austin legal community with great distinction for over 15 years as a legal assistant. Mrs. Collins was an alumna of Texas State University, having received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1992 and a Master of Arts in Legal Studies in 1999. 

Criteria for awarding this Scholarship are as follows:

  • Applicant must be a non-traditional student;
  • Applicant must have an overall GPA of at least 3.25 in their graduate studies;
  • Applicant must be a master's degree candidate in the Master of Arts Legal Studies program, who is personally financing at least 50 percent of their graduate education at Texas State University.

The Scholarship Selection Committee within the Department of Political Science in the College of Liberal Arts will review applications, select the recipient, and confirm financial need/means through the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office prior to notifying or awarding scholarships. 

To apply for the Scholarship, send an email with the subject header Legal Studies Scholarships to Dr. Crossett with a copy to Natalie Kraverath and attach the following documents: 

  1. Transcript (may be printed from CATSweb)
  2. Resume
  3. Brief essay (no more than one page) describing how the applicant meets the criteria listed above. Describe how the applicant meets the requirement of being a non-traditional student who is personally financing at least 50 percent of his/her graduate education at Texas State University.

The complete scholarship application packet must be submitted by September 15th.
