Dale Hardin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Dale Hardin Memorial Endowed Scholarship is awarded in the fall semester to a graduate student enrolled at Texas State University in the Master of Arts in Legal Studies program.

The Scholarship was established in honor of Dale Hardin, who dedicated most of his life to public service. He served in the United States Marine Corps in WWII. After the war, he completed his undergraduate degree and entered law school. Upon graduation from George Washington University School of Law, he served as a Special Agent for the FBI. Eventually, he became involved in government service in several law related positions which eventually led to his appointment to the Interstate Commerce Commission by President Lyndon Johnson. He was reappointed by President Ford and President Nixon. He was the author of numerous publications, articles, and decisions during service on the bench at the Interstate Commerce Commission. Dale retired from Federal Government in 1977 and moved to San Marcos where he served as Associate Professor at Texas State University. He also served as Director of Graduate Studies and Acting Dean of Liberal Arts. Dale was instrumental in establishing a master's degree for the Legal Studies Program. It was the first degree of its kind in Texas and one of only a few in the United States.
