The MPA’s program approaches sustainability from a number of vantage points. Dianne Rahm teaches two comprehensive courses on environmental policy and the politics of ecology and sustainability. Billy Fields approaches sustainability from the perspective of urban planning to create transportation alternatives to fossil fuel burning vehicles. Christopher Brown offers insights into Texas water policy in the next century: how the state can satisfy its citizens’ burgeoning water demand given population growth and the potentially dramatic impact of climate change on the state’s water supply. Brown has also offered a public law class focused specifically on legal responses to climate change at the international, federal, state, and local levels. These faculty members have produced scholarship on sustainability, transportation planning, and state water policy. In addition to these approaches, Nandhini Rangarajan has examined sustainability education in public affairs programs and greening human resource initiatives in local governments.
